A local tournament with a site that feels like a PGA event
The PKL Invitational is the Pittsburgh King of The Links: a two-man, two-day amateur golf tournament that has been running since 2022, played across Cranberry Highlands and Lindenwood.
An invitational lives on wanting in. The tournament had a real history and a growing list of past champions, and none of it was anywhere a prospective player could see.
There was also a plain practical need. On tournament weekend, people are standing on a first tee trying to check a format rule on a phone with one bar of signal, and a heavy website is useless to them.
The main site is built to sell the event: dark, gold on black, an animated hero, the format and the venues laid out clearly, a gallery drawn from the tournament's own photographs, and a champions wall so the history is visible.
Then there is a deliberately plain page alongside it. No images, no animation, everything a player needs in one screen, so it loads instantly on a bad connection at the course. That page exists because the fancy version is the wrong tool at 7am on a Saturday.
Applying is the point of the site, so the application sits on the home page, on the info page, and in the navigation, along with a form for people who want to be told about future years.

The application is on every route into the site, plus a waiting list for the years that are already full.
